Financial Assistance

IMPORTANT – Two options for scholarships

OPTION 1:  (Deadline March 5, 2020)

The Excellence in Clergy Leadership (ECL) scholarship is offered through the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. The ECL scholarship application is accessed online at the GBHEM website.  First-time users will be asked to set up a username and password to use throughout the GBHEM application process and when reapplying in subsequent years.  The ECL scholarship may be the most financially beneficial scholarship for full-time Missouri candidates enrolled in a United Methodist seminary.

Successful ECL applicants may receive between $7,500 and $12,500 through the ECL program.  In addition, ECL recipients will be eligible for additional funding through the Missouri UM Foundation and its C2FM scholarship program.  No additional application is required.  All ECL applicants will also be considered for all other GBHEM scholarships for which the applicant may qualify.

OPTION 2: (Deadline June 1, 2020)

Missouri Conference seminarians (who may, or may not, have started the candidacy process) may apply for financial aid from the Missouri Annual Conference (MOAC) and from the Missouri UM Foundation (MUMF) by completing and submitting the MOAC/MUMF Unified Application.  The application may be completed online and is due by June 1st each year.

This application will allow you to be considered for the MOAC scholarships (up to $5,000 per year for full-time study) and for the MUMF seminary grant (up to $3,000 per year for full-time study).  You must meet the eligibility standards for each award.  You may also agree to be considered for the C2FM award ($2,500) and will be considered for a number of additional named awards administered by the MUMF (different eligibility criteria may apply).

Reminder: Dollars for Scholars

The Dollars for Scholars program is administered by the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation (UMHEF).  If you have been a member of a local UM church for at least a year and are attending a UM seminary, you should consider applying for funding through this program.  Any funding through this program can be combined with the ECL, MOAC, and MUMF awards.

Note: Eligible Missouri students attending Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City can receive the “quadruple” Dollars for Scholars match from the MUMF.
